Getting started with surfing
While surfing, it is important to have a surfboard,
wetsuit, and surf shoes.
A surfboard is the main piece of equipment that you need for surfing. They are available in different shapes, sizes and colors. The most common type of boards are shortboards. Their shape reflects the ocean waves they were designed for and they typically have a more vertical fin that makes them easier to turn tightly. A longboard is larger and has a more even distribution of volume from front to back so it can be pushed through large waves at speed with less chance of turning over.
Wetsuits are extremely important as well because they protect your whole body from the cold water when you’re out in the sea especially in uk waters. They’re also neoprene, which means they’re waterproof and protect your skin from saltwater.
A surfboard leash is crucial for safety so you don’t lose your board while surfing.
A buoyancy vest helps with keeping you afloat so you don’t use up all your energy just trying to stay afloat, especially in the early days of learning technique.
I’m not sure how to get started on surfing! I know that there are a lot of things that you need to know before beginning.
First, you need to find a good surf break. You can do this by looking at the coastline and noticing where the waves are breaking. If you spot a peak or a section of beach where it seems like waves are breaking consistently, then you’ve found your spot.
Finally, go out with no fear – just go with the flow!
